Nearly 4 billion Forint train renewal
2011. november 09.COLAS Épitő Zrt. will be renovating the wide-guage rails in the Záhony area.
On June 18th, National Infrastructure Development Ltd published the result of the public tender.
By the March 31st deadline, five tenders had arrived; of which the lowest valid one was from COLAS Épitő Zrt. in the amount of 3,891,292,828 Ft.
Economic activitiy in the Záhony area is highly dependent on railway traffic, and the region plays a key positional role in East-West transportation. This border crossing accounts for 23% of all traffic crossing the European Union’s eastern border. But recently, the Záhony area’s wide-guage rails have labored under problematic technical obstacles. One manifestation of these obstacles are the large number of speed reduction signs, and in some cases axle-weight restrictions are the direct result of overused rails.
Because of the technical troubles, railway capacity is limited – reducing the reliability of freight forwarding. After the investment, the speed reduction signs and closed sections of track will disappear, and the new track’s appropriate axle-weight capacity can be established. Thanks to the investment future operating costs will decrease while the overall capacity of transportation will increase.
